Customers are kind, mean, and everything in between. But, every now and then, customer service representatives encounter customers that are off the charts. These requests leave service professionals scratching their heads as they conjure up ways to satisfy the consumer despite their confusion. Yet, while these interactions may be strange at the time, they typically make for entertaining stories after the fact.Below, SnapEngage, Photojojo, and Diamond Candles, share some of the craziest customer requests they've received and how they went about solving the issues at hand:
Disbelief of "Titanic" Proportions
"At SnapEngage, I once had a visitor that was convinced I was a highly intelligent bot program, but not a real human. I was unable to convince them otherwise so I offered to call them directly and sing Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" They typed in their phone #, I called, he apologized...for both of us."
Photojojo "Leaps" Into Action
"We had a customer at Photojojo whose birthday was on Leap Day, and he had ordered himself a present from our site because he only has a birthday every four years. There was a delay in shipping so he was going to get it on March 1st just like every non-leap year year. We wanted to cheer him up so we ordered an ice cream cake at his local Baskin-Robin's for him!"
Putting SnapEngage's Service to the "Test"
"At SnapEngage, we have a few tutor-type customers, and I remember getting a lost chatter that needed help on their History test that was the next day. They were very nervous because they had to pass the test or else they would be in big trouble with their parents. At this point, it was the end of the day and the tutoring site was already closed. Chats were slow for me, and I just so happen to be a bit of a history nerd. So, I quizzed them on medieval history for over an hour and discussed the finer points of the Feudal system and knights in shining armor."
"Figuring" Out How to End the Crisis
"One time a Photojojo customer asked that, instead of receiving a refund for an item she was returning, that we pay her in toy dinosaurs - I believe she asked for 1,000 of them. We send a toy dinosaur with every order, and one customer had started a photo-a-day project with her dino. Apparently one of her friends held it hostage and wanted a lifetime supply of Thin Mints for its return. So she asked us if we could send her the exact same dinosaur so she could continue her project without spending a gazillion dollars in cookies. We sent her five new dinosaurs just to be safe."
Diamond Candles' "Doggone" Delightful Response
"I once had a customer at Diamond Candles who wrote to us requesting that we sell the cute pug dog that was in one of our photos on our Facebook fan page. At first I was a little surprised at the request being that we do not sell pets and only sell candles. We thought as a team that we could find a pet store nearby where the customer lives and nudge her in that direction. Luckily, we found a local pet store in the same city as the customer with a pug dog and provided the customer with a small gift card towards the purchase of a new pet, or anything in the store just to show her how much we love our customers. The customer was stunned and wrote back with a typed line full of heart and smiley face emoticons."
