Don't Let Email Resignation Happen to You
By now you’ve heard about RadioShack terminating 400 employees at its Forth Worth headquarters last week by email. The employees came to work last Tuesday, opened their inboxes and read this: "The workforce reduction notification is currently in progress. Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated."
In turn, I recently read a report which stated that an increasing number of U.S. employees are resigning via email. What happened to face-to-face meetings? Both incidents are indicative of the need for businesses to change the way they engage employees.
A recent Gallup Poll reports that only one-third of Americans consider themselves to be passionate about their jobs. Passion thrives from engagement, which not only embodies productivity and loyalty, it’s also a critical element of competitive advantage for most organizations. Passion involves, for the most part, fostering creativity and providing a sense of purpose. But only a few truly enlightened companies have found what works.
Employees today are multitasking and can easily lose sight of how they impact the successes of the organization’s objectives. The RadioShacks of the world must mend this problem before employee and customer relationships suffer and pink slips eventually start to pop up in their inboxes.
