Is Your Network Truly Social?
I recently read a terrific article about one journalist’s experience with Linked In. I’ll boil down the point of the article to this: There’s no point in signing up to be a part of a social networking website if you’re not actually going to be “social.”
He makes a good point. Some business networking sites offer numerous benefit that are, of course, only beneficial if you use them.
Personally, I know several folks who do a great job of using all or most of the functionality on these sites. The potential result, I think, is a virtuous cycle of the more you use the network the more valuable and useful it becomes. Think of these sites as “relationship capital” (a term coined by CRM vendor Interface Software) and the value becomes increasingly apparent.
Do you think these business networking sites are effective?
