Feeling Good About Doing Good

This summer our office decided not to have a company picnic. Instead, we all volunteered at a local community center to prepare it for the upcoming after-school program. I spent the day sweeping floors, painting walls, and cleaning bathrooms. I also spent some great quality time with my co-workers and ended the day feeling good about the work I'd done and the company I work for. A socially conscious workplace helps employees feel good, and it can also show customers that the company has integrity.

In today's issue of 1to1 Weekly, we show how T-Mobile takes its commitment to customers and the community-at-large seriously. We also show how it can have an impact on the bottom line. About one third of American shoppers consider a company's business practices before opening their wallets. Another third base their product and service choices on both business practices and social issues. And 85 percent say they would shift their loyalty to another company if their current company experienced a negative ethical incident.

What steps has your company taken to connect with employees and customers in a socially conscious way?
