Welcome to Social Media Month
If you feel a sense of deja vu when the topic of social media comes up, don’t be surprised. As with many approaches to building profitable customer relationships (think: CRM), social media marketing is going through its own hype cycle. Some companies have well-planned strategies with goals and metrics, while others are rushing in just to be a part of the action. Still others haven’t quite discerned the best approach to using social media as a customer strategy tool that delivers ROI. We’re here to help make sense of it all.
Like many media organizations, 1to1 has been covering social media for a while. We have a plethora of articles and interviews on the topic, so we decided to gather it all in one place. Today we launched www.getpastthehype.com. It’s a hype-free social media resource center for more information, case studies, and interviews on creating value from online interactions. Besides my cheeky mug welcoming you to the page, it includes:
- A link to 1to1 Magazine’s July/August 2008 issue cover story, “The Social Media Hype Is Over.”
- Registration for “Getting Past the Social Media Hype,” a 1to1 editorial webinar on how organizations can use social media tools to build a more holistic customer strategy, coming up later this month.
- Definitions of social media and Web 2.0 and what makes something worthy of each moniker.
- 1to1 on the Run podcast interviews with Josh Bernoff, coauthor of Groundswell, a social media guide for businesses, and Paul Greenberg, author of CRM at the Speed of Light, about social media, including whether it lives up to the hype.
- Links to case studies on how leading organizations are capitalizing on social media.
- A widget with links to the 1to1 wiki, videos, and the Think Customers blog.

Frank,
It has. Here's the link: "Is Social Media Overhyped?"
Searching for Josh Bernoff's podcast returns zero results. Has it been posted yet?
Apologies for the incovenience. The link should be working now.
Just wanted to let you know that I got an error when I tried to go to www.getpastthehype.com. Very excited to see all that it has to offer!
