Amazon Shines Amidst Holiday Retail Woes
The big story this holiday season has been the economy, and how retailers are really hurting this year. Figures released before and after Christmas reveal low revenues across the board and a dour look at 2009 sales. But in the middle of it all stands Amazon, which boasted its"best year ever."
A recent blog in the Wall Street Journal quotes a company spokesman's assertion that the company topped its previous record for sales. This does not surprise me, because Amazon has a great combination of good prices, outstanding service, and a trustworthy process.
Yes, the price discounts Amazon can offer are pretty amazing. But its focus on delivering on its promises to customers (shipped by a certain date, resolving customer issues, etc) also puts the company in a superior position to competitors. This year I ordered a number of items from Amazon for the holidays, and all of them arrived as promised. The ability to live up to customer expectations and provide a trustworthy customer experience goes a long way in this fragile economy.
