A New Spin on a Classic Holiday Tale

It's a week before Christmas and all through the mall
Every shopper is rushing, buying things big and small.
The items were displayed in the stores with great care
In hopes that they'd sell till the walls were quite bare.
The sales signs were hung to catch shoppers' eyes;
Few products were full-priced, even the ties.

My daughter and I, BlackBerries in hand
Said, "We'll meet in an hour, near the bandstand."
When right by the food court there arose such a clatter
We rushed over to see what might be the matter
As we pushed our way through the thickening crowd
We shoved and we shouted, "Excuse me!" quite loud.

The spotlights were bright on the scene up ahead;
Tinsel glistens on trees over which they were spread.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a gaggle of elves and one mammoth reindeer.

Next to the group stood a man all in red
With a jaunty red cap titled back on his head.
"It's Santa!" we shouted and rushed to get hugs.
Instead we shown to the line by two thugs.

The line to meet Santa was lengthy at best;
An hour at least waiting along with the rest.
We wanted to stay, but the sales were still calling,
And our arms were quite achy from the packages we were hauling.

Wistfully we waved dear old Santa goodbye,
And went on our way with a big, heavy sigh.
But being the customer-focused chap that he is,
He stood and waved to me and the miss.

"Good luck with your shopping," he said, smiling bright.
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Happy Holidays, Everyone!
