Ecommerce Spending to Surge
A recent report from eMarketer shows that ecommerce spending this quarter is expected to jump 13.7 percent over the same period last year. But are organizations prepared for the influx of shoppers?
The forecast reveals that ecommerce spending is expected to grow 13.7 percent to $51.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2010, topping last year's Q4 sales of $45.2 billion.
Strong online holiday sales will push annual ecommerce sales to $162.4 billion, up 12.7% over 2009. Online holiday sales will represent an estimated 23.7 percent of online retail sales in 2010.
This forecast, along with several recent conversations I've had with companies, underscores the need for more enhanced multichannel integration--in particular, integrating mobile commerce. While I expect mobile commerce will surge in 2011, I don't think that savvy online consumers should expect to find a seamlessly integrated experience just yet.
